TRAVEL MEMORIES In August and September of 2001 I traveled in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar (Burma), Malaysia and Singapore - I spent much of my time with the Human Development Foundation in Thailand, which takes care of underprivileged and homeless children; and both adults and children with AIDS, who are in need of hospice care, in the later stages of the disease.

I got locked in that house ....see?  So, using my much-prided ingenuity, I managed to wiggle out through the window ... but I could expect NO mercy from these kids at the "Mercy Center" of the Human Development Foundation. The fellow on the left promises to eviscerate me while his colleagues chortle with joy.  This is the Children's AIDS hospice; their mothers, a very few of them, are just next door in the adult facility ....
Some people take a good photo every time! These are the girls at "Soy 40" Home for girls which is attached to the Human Development Foundation in Klong Tooey, Bangkok, Thailand.  The Home provides a close and nurturing environment for girls ranging in age from 8 to 18 who would otherwise have nowhere else to live in safety.
Here everybody gets enough to eat and lends a hand to do all the chores. I would come back in the evening after a day's work and be able to enjoy one of these delicious meals, along with some Thai beer, which I shared with the older crowd. We were later joined by Luke Anderson, a young British doctor who came as a volunteer to work with the AIDS patients.  He was able to drink more beer than I could.
Here's part of the central complex at Angkor Wat, near Seem Reap, in Cambodia. The steps are inclined at an angle of about 65 degrees and the figure you see running down them, certainly with little dignity, is me. Failing in the attempt to use the timer on my camera to capture myself posing at the very top, I had in fact already started down when this shot was taken!
