Henry Astbury Leveson (the "Old Shekarry" 1832-77) may be seen above, dressed in his well-tried & practical big-game hunters' outfit and equipped for any emergency. Burton, who seems to have  had an aversion to hunting, received a visit from him at Fernando Po in 1863. Whether the admiration expressed by Leveson (below) was mutual, we may never know. Henry, a well known Victorian soldier, traveler and hunter and was born Henry Astbury Levyssohn in Manchester in 1828, grandson of Hartog Levie, distinguished lawyer of Rotterdam:
